A renovated church, Dr. Eileen Murphy’s office on Seward Street is the culmination of a dream to provide state-of-the-art medicine in an environment that puts patients at ease and promotes communication with providers. Her first office on Nelson Street laid the foundation for Women’s Health Specialists (WHS), a comprehensive gynecologic practice Dr. Murphy founded in 1995.
Dr. Murphy brought an innovative approach to women’s health care by introducing both medical and counseling services to her community. Ahead of her time, she brought in-vitro fertilization, DXA bone density scans, laparoscopic hysterectomies, and a medically supervised weight loss program. She also introduced counseling for overall wellness, stress management, nutrition, and exercise.
While caring for patients Dr. Murphy found time to launch outreach programs to educate women to make informed decisions in their own care. She helped to secure and pass legislation that mandated insurance companies to pay for 48-hour postpartum care and for breast reconstructive surgery after mastectomy through the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. She has also lectured in public schools to adolescents. These initiatives are the result of strong family values she learned from her grandmother, Mrs. Frances Licardi, to whom Dr. Murphy dedicated her Seward Street office when it was completed.
Dr. Murphy constantly improves services to better meet the medical and personal needs of her patients. Her medically monitored weight loss program features personalized programs with comprehensive support services in nutrition, exercise and behavior modification. Her most recent offering is a concierge service for those individuals desiring more personalized care.
